I like to use cartoons in my classroom especially science ones so it can spark a little laughter in class as well as increase engagement. I saw this cartoon and I immediately felt this was fitting!
This week I was struggling with my Instructional Plan!!
I find it hard to call the Instructional Plan a "lesson plan" because to have an answer to all the components I had to reference my unit plan. I consider the Instructional Plan more of Unit Plan that states all the components that the students will address and learn. Not every component in the Instructional Plan will be addressed in each lesson because of either time of the period or the activities the students are to do. In saying this I hope I completed my Instructional Plan the way it was asked :) If you want to take a look at it and give me some feedback that would be awesome! Just let me know!
Now on to the reflection:
I really like the 5 E's Strategy! I use it on a regular basis in my school and within my team it helps us to hone in on what the students need to be able to do and it gives the teachers a better plan of action on how to teach it. It also helps the teacher to be creative when choosing the exploration plan of the unit. I do not touch on all 5 E's in each lesson plan some days we are just exploring while other times we are explaining or evaluating and many days we can touch on all 5 within a class period. This caused me some confusion when it came to the actual Instructional Plan but I am hoping I get a chance to get feedback and fix the mistakes!
How did you all feel about the assignment?!

Tabitha,
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you about the instructional plan being more of a unit plan. I found it difficult to breakdown to a single lesson. My IP actually spans several days due to the technology aspect.
I also use the 5 E's, just not daily. It really has to be determined by what it is that you are doing each day. Somedays it applies and some days it does not.
One way to use Evaluate daily would be to include an exit ticket of sorts or the 3-2-1 strategy.
Yes I agree! I use the Exit Slip as well. I use formative assessment probes from Page Keelys book "Uncovering Student Ideas in Science". She makes formative assessment probes for all concepts in science. I love them!! I bought the whole 5 book set! Google it and check them out, you may be able to use them as an exit slip/do now in your classroom to test for understanding.
DeleteLet me know what you think :)
Tabitha,
ReplyDeleteI also agree that this lesson plan format would better be used as a unit lesson plan. I also found it very difficult to incorporate all aspects of the lesson plan into a days lesson. This was do to time constrants and students unable to complete work in time.
Thereasa,
DeleteI hope the feedback the professor gives helps to clear up where we all were confused. I just hope I do not get a bad grade because it is not a "lesson plan" for a day. We will see though.
Love the cartoon. Humor is such an important aspect in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteThe initial assignment was difficult to complete; I agree. I am not accustomed to the 5 E's strategy. I am more familiar with traditional "daily" lesson plans. So, if anyone can give some clues in implementing this system, I will be greatly thankful.
Truett,
DeleteI hope my response to your blog helped :) Thats how I use the 5E's to guide me when I write the plans.
